Stromatolite is a form of fossilized algae, this type found in Bolivia. But I think the most popular name is Tiffany Stone since it is reminiscent of both Tiffany Lamps and a baby's name (so feminine and pretty right?) This stone has an interesting history since it used to be mined for the tips of missiles since it is impervious to heat. The color patterns remind me of stained glass or mosaics. that is so lovely with marble like swirls of purple, ivory and other soft earthtones. This is an excellent mixture for making jewelry, inlay work and crafting of all sorts. It is very difficult to find Tiffany Stone in this small size, so it is a great find indeed!
