Smoky QuartzSmoky Quartz, or ‘Smoky Topaz’ is a beloved member of the Quartz family (silicon dioxide) that is recognizable by shimmering moments of the same beautiful translucency of Clear Quartz, combined with opaque earthy browns and smoky-golden fading grays. This crystal feels pure like low laying golden sunlight, and yet mysterious, wreathed in beneficent fog and smoke. Often combined with other Quartz minerals like Citrine and Amethyst, Smoky Quartz is inclined to share special features of the Quartz Family, such as rainbow prisms, enhydros, druzy specimens, inclusions and phantoms.

Smoky Quartz is profoundly grounding, and like most of the Quartz Family has the ability to soak up negative stimulus and modulate geopathic stress for the wearer. Smoky Quartz combines this ethereal talent with a spellbindingly ancient and grounding presence and ability to tap into the Earth. This activation of the Root Chakra allows one to deeply process and integrate their emotional and physical experiences in a manner that creates extra space as an emotional buffer, just in case it is needed. The darkest colored Smoky Quartz is known as ‘Morion.’ Smoky quartz is also all about believing in the underdog! This crystal can help you set the boundaries you need, to succeed against all odds.

Known as a versatile stone for cleansing, and treasured as the National Stone of Scotland, Smoky Quartz was considered a sacred stone of power by the Druids. Often Highlanders mourning the loss of a friend or family member would ornament themselves with Smoky Quartz, as this crystal is thought to be able to aid a spirit crossing over into the afterlife. There is a special variety of Quartz known as Cairngorm Smoky Quartz that comes from the Cairngorm Mountain Range in Scotland, along with other Cairngorm healing crystals like Amethyst and Citrine. Cairngorm Quartz especially can be a brilliant ray of sunshine when the hard grind of life has got you down. The largest known sample of Cairngorm is at Braemar Castle, Scotland and weighs 52 lbs!

Quartz FamilyYou know what they say, It’s always impossible until someone does it! And those that say it is impossible rarely are on the side of change. Smoky Quartz is a top stone for providing a supportive anchor through times of stress and change. What if we could become comfortable with change, with the idea that we are not permanent in this world without having to stress about it? Smoky Quartz lends a certain funereal grace to even somber situations, and can help us to accept the things in life that we have no control over.
