These lovely and unusual stones originate from India and have been hand cut and polished where the top of the stone is polished in a shiny half dome to highlight the Ruby "star" while the shaft of the stone is smooth, 6 sided. The top can vary in color from pinkish to deep violet and you can see a chatoyant, starry like reflection all over the tip. The bottom of the base is also chatoyant. Overall, these stones range from a deep, almost black color to more light hues of purple and red. This is an ideal stone for wire wrapping, Romance Crystal Kits, medicine bags and healing grids.  

Notes from my Professional Experience

In my healing practice,  I use Ruby quite often whenever directed passion is called for. It has an overall protective effect, whether from psychic negative forces or energy robbing, physical "drains." I add them to medicine bags for many types of health issues and I always include Ruby in pregnancy and birthing bags for new moms.Ruby is one of my all time favorite stones for romance, sexual attraction and finding true love. It operates well on both the physical and spiritual planes (its all connected).

Sacred beauty, sacred power! This is a gorgeous pure gemstone that has a sheen (like a hazy star in the sky) when held to the light. The sheen is a lighter pink to light purple color. Star Ruby is formed from Corundum with Rutile (aka Silk) fibers that flash and shine in the light. Overall it has a very dark blood reddish-purple color. The term "Star" is used when the Rutile is present to form a "flash." Corundum is a term used for a class of minerals that include Ruby and Sapphire, and the colors can vary widely. The name Corundum is derived from the Sanskrit, kuruvinda meaning "Ruby".
